KADIFF CELEBRATES WORLD DRUG DAY
The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, also known as 'World Drug Day', is celebrated annually on 26th June.
The theme of World Drug Day 2020 is "Better Knowledge for Better Care." The field of addressing the drug problem has been 'plagued' by misinformation of many kinds.
Kaduna international film festival celebrated world drug day by hosting Her Excellency first lady of Kwara state Dr. Mrs Folake Abdulrazaq with an Instagram live on the topic: "Drug abuse; confronting the problem". The founder of KADIFF was the host of this great event.
Her Excellency, Dr. Mrs Olufolake Abdulrazaq spoke extensively on the effect of drug abuse to mostly the youth who have been victim on the abuse of drugs. From July 2019 to now Kwara state have been able to manage the use of drug abuse by engaging the youth and sensitizing the public with the help of critical stakeholders. The state was able encourage sporting activities, talents and creativity through the ministry of social development in Kwara state.
While speaking during the Instagram live to celebrate world drug day her Excellency task the movie industry, celebrities and entertainer to be role models knowing that the have a big role to play in the fight against drugs. Her Excellency who loves the youth encourages them to avoid stigmatizing victims of drug abuse but help them as some may need psychological help. In her last words Dr. Mrs Olufolake Abdulrazaq was positive and believe that drug abuse can be eradicated.
To end the celebration of world drug day organized by KADIFF there was a second guest Rikky Bent a writer, singer, psychologist and an addiction counselor who shared her thought on drug abuse and task the youth to kick against the stigma that comes with drug abuse as some may be struggling to get out of this disease, she also declared drug abuse a pandemic.
Rikky emphasized that youth have been ignored in our society today and we need to stand up and show the world we are not lazy youth. In her concluding speech Bent was hopeful that drug abuse can be eradicated today with our collective effort.
The founder of KADIFF thank the guests and hope to have them again as we anticipate the 3rd Visual kaduna international film festival in August.
